PlayStation VR 2 is rumoured to be coming out in 2022 for the holidays

The report, which cites “people with knowledge of the matter” who asked not to be named, also states that Sony will be using OLED panels created by Samsung for the next PlayStation VR headset.

The first PlayStation VR, which was released in 2016, contained OLED screens in each eye that gave a 960x1080 resolution image to each eye. Sony has already indicated that its successor would have a higher resolution display.

According to Sony Interactive Entertainment's Nishino, the headset will have increased resolution and field of vision tracking and will not be released until 2021.

Currently, the PSVR headset works on PS5 as a backwards-compatible device, whereas launch window games like No Man's Sky and Hitman 3 only support VR on PS4 versions.

The camera accessory for the PlayStation 5 will not operate with PlayStation VR, and customers will need to request a free adaptor to connect it.

Since the headset's launch in October 2016, Sony announced in January 2020 that sales of PlayStation VR had surpassed five million units.
